Threat made to local casino determined a hoax

Lethbridge Police have determined that a threat made to a local casino was a “swatting” hoax, where a false report is made to emergency services in order to trigger a response from law enforcement.

On Thursday, January 2, 2025 at 6:30 p.m., a casino located on the 3000 block of 2 Avenue South reported to police that they had received a phone call from an unknown caller stating that the building was going to explode. While patrols were responding, the casino’s security further reported a suspicious package left inside building.

The building was evacuated and police conducted a thorough search, finding no explosives or suspicious devices.

Further investigation revealed that the call was a “swatting” hoax and that there was no threat to the public.
