Three people charged in connection with unrelated weekend assaults
Lethbridge Police have charged three subjects and identified a person of interest, in connection with several separate, unrelated assaults over the weekend.
On July 24, around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a disturbance in Galt Gardens. Investigation determined two males, who are known to one another, were engaged in a verbal altercation when one of the males proceeded to strike the other with a pipe. The 44-year-old victim was transported to hospital with head injuries.
The subject was located a short time later and arrested. Police seized a metal pipe and stick he had in his possession.
John Atem Ayiel, of Lethbridge, 47, is charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and resisting a peace officer. Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Ayiel was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court July 29.
On July 25, just after 11:30 a.m., police on patrol were flagged down in the area of the 800 block of 2 A Avenue North in response to an injured male. Investigation determined a 33-year-old male was confronted by two subjects who demanded he empty his pockets. When he refused, he was bear sprayed and assaulted with a baton. The incident was recorded on video surveillance in the area.
The two subjects were located a short distance away within 10 minutes and arrested without incident.
Leland Jhon Eagle Speaker, 21, and Terrance Cooper Dayne Many Grey Horses, 27, both of Lethbridge, are charged with robbery with an offensive weapon. Many Grey Horses is also charged with failing to comply with a release order.
Following Judicial Interim Release hearings, both accused were remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in court July 28.
In a third incident, police have identified a person of interest and the investigation is ongoing.
