Victim/Witness Services seeking volunteers to serve as Crisis Support Workers
The Lethbridge Police Service's Victim/Witness Services Unit (V/WSU) is recruiting compassionate community members to serve as Volunteer Crisis Support Workers, helping provide critical support to victims and witnesses of crime and tragedy.
For more than three decades, volunteers have been the cornerstone of the V/WSU program, delivering trauma-informed support and guidance to individuals facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Working alongside police officers and community partners, volunteers provide on-scene crisis intervention, follow-up support, court preparation assistance and connections to community resources.
"We are seeking approximately 20 volunteers to strengthen our team and help ensure 24/7 support is available so that no one facing a crisis has to navigate it alone," says Cat Pooley, Manager of the Victim/Witness Services Unit. "Our community is diverse, and we are looking for volunteers from all backgrounds who can bring their unique perspectives and experiences to this important work. If you are compassionate, community-minded and committed to making a difference, we encourage you to apply."
Individuals interested in becoming Volunteer Crisis Support Workers must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a clear Criminal Record Check
- Hold a valid Class 5 driver's licence
- Be available for a minimum of two on-call shifts per month
- Live close enough to Lethbridge to respond to a crisis within approximately 10 minutes
Volunteer Crisis Support Workers receive extensive training and ongoing learning opportunities to provide trauma-informed, client-centered care both on-scene and over the phone.
Applications are being accepted online until October 14. Questions can be directed to V/WSU Manager Cat Pooley at 403-330-5023.
