Charity Phone Scam
Police are warning the public to be aware of a recent, ongoing phone scam after reports from multiple citizens have been received.
Several citizens have reported receiving phone calls from people claiming to be from the Lethbridge Police Association (LPA). The suspects are soliciting donations in support of veterans and injured officers. The phone numbers being used are “spoofed” and are not affiliated with Lethbridge Police, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, or the Legion.
Please be aware:
- The Lethbridge Police Association, Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services, and the Legion will NOT solicit donations over the phone
- If you receive one of these calls, decline and hang up the phone
- If you receive an unsolicited text or email with a link attached, NEVER click the link
- Delete suspicious text messages and emails without opening any attachments.
- Do NOT give personal information or send money to someone you don’t know, based on a phone call, email or text message.
Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam and not yet reported it, is asked to call police at 403-328-4444.
