The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors to our site. This website, and our practices, have been designed to ensure compliance with the privacy provisions of Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).

Collection of Information

When you visit the LPS site, a limited amount of standard information essential to the operation and evaluation of the site is collected

While LPS does not automatically gather personal information, information is obtained when supplied by the user though email, online forms, or subscriptions. The personal information submitted through these formats is stored securely by the LPS website provider on servers housed in Canada. The information is only disclosed to authorized LPS personnel for the purpose of responding to requests for information or service.

The LPS website provider uses “cookies” (temporary text files placed on your computer) to remember a visitor’s preferences as they navigate the site and ensure the smooth operation of the CMS (Content Management System). Cookies are stored locally for the duration of the time the user visits the website. No personally identifiable information is collected or stored through the website’s use of cookies.

The LPS website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”).

Google Analytics uses “cookies” (temporary text files placed on your computer) to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated from visitors includes:

  • IP address
  • operating system
  • browser type
  • screen size
  • traffic patterns
  • pages visited

Google transmits and stores information collected on servers in the United States. They may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate IP addresses with any other data held by Google.

LPS uses the anonymous statistical information provided by Google Analytics to evaluate the website, compile reports on website activity and make improvements to be the website’s design.

LPS may use a third-party service provided by Google called "reCAPTCHA" on some webpages. The reCAPTCHA service uses “cookies” (temporary text files placed on your computer) to verify users are human and prevent abuse by automated programs. reCAPTCHA transmits and stores the following information to the Google servers in the United States:

  • IP address
  • date
  • time
  • language
  • screen size and resolution
  • mouse movements
