Lethbridge Police charge male with manslaughter following death of senior
A 34-year-old Lethbridge male is now facing a charge of manslaughter in connection with the death of an elderly male.
The accused was previously charged with aggravated assault stemming from an incident last month that resulted in life-threatening injuries to an 80-year-old man. The victim was initially transported to Chinook Regional Hospital then airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary where he succumbed to his injuries October 9. Following the victim’s death, the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.
On September 10 around noon, police and EMS responded to a report of an injured elderly male along the 1200 block of 2A Avenue North. Investigation determined the senior’s bike had been stolen from outside a business and when he confronted the male subject a physical altercation ensued. The subject punched the 80-year-old male causing him to fall backward and strike his head on the pavement. He then fled the scene prior to police arrival. Later in the day the subject called dispatch to turn himself in. He was subsequently arrested without incident at a northside home.
Cameron Jordon Hamilton, 34, of Lethbridge, who remains in custody, is charged with manslaughter, uttering threats and theft under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear court October 23.
