Police charge male with sexual assault, unlawfully in a dwelling house
Lethbridge Police have charged a 35-year-old male in connection with a sexual assault and unlawfully entering a home.
On June 19, police responded to a report that a 50-year-old female was sexually assaulted. She reported that after being driven home in a taxi, she was sexually assaulted by the driver before exiting the cab. The male proceeded to call her numerous times, then attended her home later in day, repeatedly knocking on the door. The female feared for her safety and subsequently called 911.
Following further investigation, the victim reported that earlier this year, after a previous ride from the same driver, he offered to help carry her groceries but instead of leaving them at her door, he entered her home without permission and proceeded to use her washroom before leaving.
Sujeepan Sathiyananthan, 35, of Lethbridge, is charged with sexual assault and unlawfully in a dwelling house.
Following a Judicial Interim Release hearing, Sathiyananthan was released from custody with conditions of no contact with the victim. He scheduled to appear in court July 8.
