Police recover firearms and $85,000 worth stolen property
Lethbridge Police have recovered firearms and $85,000 worth of stolen property as a result of an investigation that initially began during a proactive patrol where officers observed an open gate at a northside business and conducted a safety check.
On November 10, members of the Downtown Policing Unit were on patrol when officers observed the gate to a storage compound along the 300 block of 10 Street North to be ajar. Upon checking inside, police located a male accessing two open units and sea cans. Police observed multiple power tools inside one of the units believed to be related to a break and enter. Investigation determined the male was not the owner of the storage units and was arrested for trespassing. A search warrant was subsequently obtained and executed at the storage facility. Police recovered approximately $60,000 worth of stolen power tools that have been linked to five separate break and enters, as well as five stolen firearms, ammunition and a small quantity of fentanyl.
Following further investigation, police obtained a second search warrant that was executed November 13 at a residence along the 1800 block of 58 Street South. Police recovered additional stolen property, linked to another five break-in and theft-related files, including numerous power tools, electric scooters and bikes, airsoft guns and more, totaling approximately $25,000. A truck, previously reported stolen from the Crowsnest Pass, was also recovered and police seized various drug paraphernalia and several boxes of ammunition.
Police have evidence to suggest the two male occupants of the home have been accepting stolen property as payment for drugs.
