Retired physiotherapist charged in connection with sexual assault of patient

Lethbridge Police have charged a 61-year-old male who previously worked as a physiotherapist, in connection with the sexual assault of a young female patient.

In late 2024, police responded to a report of an historic sexual assault that took place during physiotherapy treatment sessions at Chinook Regional Hospital.

An investigation was initiated and determined the victim, who was 12-years-old at the time of the incidents, was sexually assaulted on two occasions between November 2021 and January 2022 while she was undergoing physical therapy.

The male subject, who is retired from his position and no longer employed by Alberta Health Services, attended the police station and was arrested without incident.

Kin Wai Godfrey Kwan, 61, of Lethbridge, is charged with two counts each of sexual assault of a person under 16 and sexual interference. Kwan was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 16.

A photo of Kwan is being released as police believe there may be additional victims and are encouraging them to come forward. Anyone who believes they may be a victim is asked to call police at 403-328-4444 and reference file 24018750.

The investigation is ongoing.

No further information will be released.
