Winter driving safety
- Clear your vehicle of all ice and snow before hitting the road
- Slow down and drive at a speed that matches the weather and road conditions
- Give yourself extra time for all maneuvers - stopping, changing lanes, and passing
- Increase your following distance to allow more time to react to the unexpected
- Avoid overtaking large vehicles or snowplows unless absolutely necessary
- Turn on your headlights to improve visibility for yourself and others
- Brake and steer gently - sudden movements can cause your vehicle to skid. Four-wheel drive does not mean four-wheel stop
- Stay alert. Scan ahead for hazards and use extra caution at intersections, ramps, and bridges
- Plan ahead and leave extra time to to reach your destination
