Throughout the month of June law enforcement agencies across Alberta are focusing on commercial vehicle safety.
Here’s how you can help make our roads safer:
- Give trucks plenty of space—they have large blind spots
- Don’t cut them off—they take longer to stop
- Never try to squeeze past a turning truck—they need more room
Alberta 2023 Traffic Stats You Should Know:
- Truck tractors made up 2% of casualty collisions but a concerning 10% of fatal crashes
- They were more likely to be involved in collisions caused by vehicle-related issues
- Truck drivers were more likely to run off the road or make improper lane changes, but less likely to tailgate or make risky left turns
- Shockingly, nearly 81% of commercial vehicles inspected in Lethbridge County were flagged as “out of service” by peace officers.
